India Mahdavi was invited to create a new original café in Beverly Hills for Ladurée Patisserie and Café. She created her own style mixing French and American atmosphere. Describing her work, she says «Marie Antoinette goes to Hollywood». This description expresses the café’s identity: a French touch in an American style.

Inside, the customers will feel calm, peaceful and cosy due to the pastels colours to remind the tones of the famous Ladurée’s macarons. All the design has been thought carefully: the walls, the storefront and the floor.

The walls wake up with the sun with all the flowers mirrors, a sign for nature. The floor is the only part of the café that contains dark colour but mix with white and the marble give a successful result that fit perfectly with the rest of the café. India Mahdavi picks the entire furniture precisely, paying attention to each detail, which is a part of the real talent of an architect.

We can see an inspiration from the classic high-back wicker chair of Gio Ponti but revisited by India Mahdavi on her own version.  She even explained its choice of the colours, the materials and furniture: “The sweetness of the design nods to the history of Ladurée and its French heritage but it also feels very contemporary and very California.”
