A visit to chef Eneko Atxa‘s three Michelin-starred Azurmendi in Basque Country, Northern Spain was one of our culinary highlights this year. The Basque Country is packed with Michelin-starred restaurants but Azurmendi is one of few with three stars. Located in verdant rolling hills and vineyards just outside of Bilbao, Azurmendi offers a menu of beautifully presented delights ranging from asparagus-infused candy floss (sounds bizarre but it’s delicious), roasted lobster, sea urchin and oysters tartare to an imaginative dessert made with chocolate, peanut and licorice and now the chef has open a brand New London Restaurant.
We were excited to hear that Chef Eneko had opened a more casual and less expensive restaurant in London this autumn and were keen to see how it compared to our dining experience in Northern Spain. With this new restaurant, the chef’s aim was to “create an unpretentious modern take on rustic Basque cuisine, based on quality ingredients, simplicity and culinary heritage.”
