The Paris Haute Couture spring 2017 shows for the Paris Fashion Week, was a week-long event that set the stage for the season’s dominant trends, and designers truly delivered a purely spectacular escape.

Reigning fashion houses like Dior, Chanel and Elie Saab took the viewers away to a world of fantasy. “Drama” and “escapism” proved to be the prevailing themes across the collections, with sweeping, floor-length gowns and jewel-encrusted accessories taking center stage.

Let´s take a look to some of the most breath taking designs and the master minds behind them, that made this the fashion event of the year:

Elli Saab
There’s a reason Elie Saab is a regular on the red carpet: The man knows how to create a beautiful evening look. For the Spring 2017 haute couture collection, Saab presented a range filled with intricate embroidery, luxe fabrics, and high-shine embellishment, all rendered in rich shades of blue and gold. In this collection there is enough sheer options to keep celebrities showing off their well-toned bums for years to come. But Saab also caters to his more modest clientele, offering formal looks with sleeves, pants, and covered décolletage.

Valentino
Valentino entered in a new era with Pierpaolo Piccioli’s first show as solo creative director of the label, though, admittedly, the Spring ’17 lineup looks a lot like the Valentino we already know and love. Romance is delivered in contemporary shapes and details, like the lace-up flats and micro-mini crossbody bags swung over evening wear. Dresses cut in the same peasant silhouettes with high necks and skirts that float away from the body. Notably, reds and pinks dominate the runway — a nod to Valentino’s signature red now washed in bright fuchsias, then muted petal pinks.

Armani Privé
Armani Privé offered the ultimate power-dressing-meets-couture concept with this spring collection. Nipped-waist blazers with strong shoulders and black trousers offered the ultimate take on the suit for the fashion maven. Working with a color pallet of orange, black and marigold, the Armani pieces were a definitive departure from the romantic trappings noted in other collections.

Chanel
As Paris Couture Week marches on, Karl Lagerfeld presented his spring collection for Chanel at the Grand Palais, sending out 66 ladylike looks that ranging from waist-cinching tweed suits to fully sequined and feathered gowns. Of course, as it customary with any Chanel couture show, it was the final look that had the most cachet – the coveted Chanel bride, who also accompanies Lagerfeld for his final bow.
