Interior Design From Jan Showers

Jan co-chaired the inaugural Kips Bay Decorator Show House in Dallas in the autumn of 2020, and she is thrilled to chair again in 2021. Aside from her interior design firm, Jan maintains a public showroom in the Dallas Design District that is commemorating 25 years. Jan sells handpicked vintage and antique goods, as well as her to-the-trade furniture collection, the Jan Showers Collection, which is available for purchase straight from her showroom.

Jan has published three books: Glamorous Rooms, Glamorous Retreats, and Glamorous Living which was released in the fall of 2020. Showers’ works have all been published by Abrams.

Interior Design Ideas of Jan Showers

Jan Showers thinks that design should be relevant to how we live, as well as attractive, glamorous, comfortable, and luxurious, even when it is quite casual. Showers’ aesthetic has been regarded as chic and timeless by one of her clients. Her creations convey glamour and grace while being approachable and relaxed, much like Jan herself.

Jan Showers: Interior Design Inspiration

Jan Showers considers genuinely good interior design to be an art form. Her interior design team has received training in numerous fields of design, art, and architecture and is capable of working with a wide range of design and interior styles. Jan Showers and her team believe in a collaborative process that fosters collaboration between the interior designer and the customer. They are a full-service interior design business that offers interior rehabilitation, new construction, home furnishing, and interior design services.

Preston Hollow Estate

Kimberly Schlegel Whitman hails from a long tradition of designers and entertainers in Dallas.

Kim became a customer of Jan Showers when she was just 23 years old. She was a debutante fresh out of Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas. Jan recognized Kim’s exceptional taste from the start of their first endeavour together, a little flat. “She bought absolutely beautiful pieces” Showers recalls, pointing Whitman toward sophisticated 1940s French furniture.

This is their sixth project together. Kim wanted this to be full of colour and pattern, and the two succeeded. “We’ve always been on the same wavelength,” Showers explains. “I’m a lot older than she is, but Kim’s an old soul.” This almost 10,000-square-foot mansion is on nearly two acres in Dallas’ Preston Hollow area. It’s a terrific place to throw parties and entertain, which Kim enjoys doing. The Whitmans found the initial location of the late-1990s house to be austere and intimidating. Showers delivered on her promise to renovate the house.

For graciousness and even humour, Dallas architect J. Wilson Fuqua included elaborate crown mouldings and other architectural flourishes—some of the mouldings represent tassels and latticework. Showers painted the majority of the walls a soft, silky white, creating an open canvas for the Whitmans’ vibrant modern art collection as well as antiques and new furniture items from the Jan Showers Collection.

Bluffview Residence

This 3,000-square-foot contemporary home in the Dallas Bluffview area was completed in 2014. The architect was Svend Fruit of Bodron + Fruit. Because it is surrounded by trees and beautiful landscaping, the house is nearly concealed from the street. Showers clients discovered they were now empty nesters and bought this house in 2016 after downsizing from a 6,000-square-foot Highland Park home.

“My client has a sophisticated eye,” Showers said “The key was finding a balance between what she already had and new pieces.” The clients wanted to warm up the property, which was already contemporary and elegant. This property features a lovely blend of antiques and new Jan Showers Collection items.

Inspired by the look

Jan’s Dallas Townhouse

Jan Showers and her husband Jim own this 1970s-era townhouse in Dallas’ Turtle Creek neighbourhood.

Before moving into the townhouse in 2001, Showers refurbished and decorated it. Jan’s home is packed with everything she adores, from mid-century modernism to 1940s French design.

Showers’ house contains numerous early items from her to-the-trade collection, the Jan Showers Collection. Jan has an eye for antiques and has been collecting artefacts from her journeys to Europe for the past 20 years. Their master bedroom, which is decorated with de Gournay’s willow wallpaper, is her favourite room in the home.

Paradise Valley

A twelve-acre parcel was purchased, kicking off an eight-year project for Jan Showers and Marwan Al-Sayed, the architect, and his team.

Jan Showers and Marwan Al-Sayed worked well together, and the Delaneys were involved in all interior design and architectural decisions since Mr. Delaney might easily have been an architect himself. He envisioned a home that appeared to be a ruin that had been turned into a habitation.

The outside stone, which also serves as the inside walls, was chosen with great care.

Interior design and establishing a pleasant atmosphere were important to the Delaneys, so we chose light wood floors and vintage Persian carpets throughout the house to create an appealing feel in each room.

Eye-level lighting and Delaney’s extensive art collection all enhance the space’s sense of intimacy and connection.

Jan Showers bought chandeliers from Europe for use throughout the house’s interior design. Marc Heiremanns, a leading expert and trader in vintage and antique Murano glass, supplied several of the old chandeliers. The vintage glass adds a nice contrast to the stone walls and the soft texture of the carpets. The sculptural brass chandelier in the dining room is a Van Heeck masterwork that the Jan Showers team discovered in Paris.

The interior design was completed with excellent vintage furniture, lamps, wall hangings, and accessories, largely from France.

Their Paradise Valley home is the third full interior design project we have completed for the Delaney family, and it is one of the greatest projects and proudest triumphs of Jan Showers’ interior design career.
