The principle for Brisbane Street House was to create a home for a young family to grow in. Jeremy Bull, founder and director of Alexandre & Co wanted the re-design of the house to reflect the desire for “a robust and beautiful family house which could provide education and experience for a young family.”

Located in Sydney, the original home was a small 2 bedroom semi-detached terrace house so “maximising the perception of space and experience on a small block” was an important consideration in the new design. This included modifying the proportions of each room to make the terrace feel more like a house and implementing a selection of window and door types, allowing spaces to expand and contract in tune with the needs of the family. Jeremy selected materials that were beautiful and luxurious but resilient enough to contend with young children, ensuring a simple aesthetic with a clean and welcoming palette.

The renovated home is “a satisfying and generous family home which continues to unfold,” says Jeremy. Salvaged European oak floors were laid throughout the ground level, and in the kitchen especially they set the tone, giving an airy and clean feel to the house.

White polyurethane cabinets, stainless steel benchtop, and Carrara marble splashback creates a streamlined and clutter-free kitchen, allowing the space to take centre-stage.

The bathroom has a Japanese style bathtub located behind the vanity. It is beautiful as much as it is practical, with white penny-round ceramic tiles providing fun and texture for the children.
