Foster and Partners is a global studio that works with sustainable architecture, engineering, urbanism, and industrial design. It was founded in 1967 by Norman Foster. It has offices across the globe, including in mainland China and Hong Kong.

In Hong Kong, they were responsible for major projects such as Hong Kong and Shanghai bank headquarters, the Hong Kong international airport, and the West Kowloon cultural district. Let’s get to know some of their projects in Hong Kong and worldwide!

The Murray

The Murray is a luxury hotel located along legendary Cotton Tree Drive in the heart of Hong Kong. It has 336 sophisticated spacious suites and guestrooms across 25 stores. They made the upper-level suites angled to create a generous central living space.

The corner suites have spectacular views of the harbour and the peaks and gardens. One of the central aims of the project was to create welcoming ground floor spaces and landscaped grounds that incorporate a public tai chi area.

Cathay Pacific Lounges, Hong Kong International Airport

In this project, they wanted to create spaces that would harmonise with the existing building and at the same time offer a new experience for the traveller. Cathay’s first and business class facilities were divided into four different lounges with amenities such as meeting rooms, bars, and even private “cabanas”.

Residence Bel-Air

Residence Bel-Air is located on the island south, the most prestigious and sought-after residential area in Hong Kong. Completed in 2008, it has 8 towers that rise to forty-one storeys.

It has 3 clubhouses and approximately 3,000 luxury residences. Being a part of Cyberport, Bel-Air has access to a wide range of facilities, such as offices, a 5-star hotel, a shopping mall that houses a selection of restaurants, a cinema, and a supermarket.

Lumiere Apartments, Sydney

The Lumiere Apartments are located in George Street, one of the main areas in Sydney, Australia. It was designed as models of sustainable and high-density urban form. It combines home, work, commerce, and leisure since inside it has a commercial area, residencia areas, and a luxurious apartment hotel.

The apartments have winter gardens which are separated from the living spaces by glass doors. These internal-external spaces are designed to maintain a clean facade and at the same time provide spaces that can be opened up in all seasons.

Doluney Villa

Doluney Villa was a project made in 2019 along the coast of the Aegean Sea in Turkey’s southwestern province of Muğla. The house was designed to blur the boundaries between inside and outside living.

When you go through the main entrance, the first place you see is the private family quarters on the eastern side, and the public living and dining areas to the west, which feature amazing views of the setting sun over the Aegean.

3Beirut

3Beirut is located in the Beirut Central District and has a prestigious site in the city centre. This project pays special attention to the climate and culture of Beirut. The apartment interiors are elegant, calm, and spacious and have functional layouts so the residents can use the space in several different ways.

100 East 53rd Street

100 East 53rd Street is a tower with 61 storeys located in New York. So that it could fit with the surrounding area, the tower has a slender, minimalist geometric form. The interior spaces have a lot of daylight and spectacular views from every angle.

It has 94 apartments with two main design typologies. ‘Loft Apartments’ are inspired by New York’s downtown industrial loft style and ‘Tower Apartments’ that have a more classic style and are located on the upper floors.

The Corniche

Located in London, it is composed of three towers. There is a total of 253 apartments, and some facilities such as offices, restaurants, and a residents’ bar, gym, pool, and spa. 

The apartments are designed from the inside-out, which means that the interior defines the outside of the building and the proportions of each building.

Four Seasons Hotel at Comcast Technology Center

Located in Philadelphia, the Comcast Technology Center is the city’s tallest building at 341 meters. The hotel has 219 rooms which 39 of which are suites and it’s located between floors 48 to 56. It has lots of amenities such as a spa with an amazing view and a Michelin restaurant.

Principal place

The principal place was recently completed in 2020 and is located in London, UK. With 175 meters, it is one of London’s tallest residential buildings. It has a variety of apartment sizes and a single amazing duplex penthouse.

The design was made so that every residence has a generous space and lots of natural light. The layouts maximize the living area and the entrance is the heart of the space. The bedrooms are very private and almost all apartments have their own balcony.
