The home of great food, Paris has a plethora of restaurants offering fantastic French fare – ranging from traditional bistros to smart, trendy restaurants and Michelin-starred establishments. But food isn’t the only thing we can appreciate about Paris restaurants; Many of them are beautifully designed and the overall decor is so amazing it makes you want to linger. To give you proof that restaurants in Paris are must-visits, here’s a list of incredible chic dining establishments in the City of Light.
Italian restaurant Il Carpaccio is a one Michelin-star Italian restaurant in Paris. The intimate dining room draws on a Sicilian baroque style with an extravagant shell decor on the walls, opening onto a lovely glass conservatory drenched in light. Two contemporary artists have created unique works of art that add to the Italian theme.
Designed by architect Odile Decq, L’Opera restaurant brings a touch of modernity to the Paris Opera by integrating design and organic shapes. The tables are beautifully designed in red and white, and allow visitors to sit down for a coffee, a drink or to eat a good meal.
When looking for restaurants in Paris, there’s no way you won’t considere Alain Ducasse au Plaza Athénée. The dining room is a gem – designed by Patrick Jouin and Sanjit Manku – where all is softness of curves, materials and contents. Everywhere is wonder in the remarkable quality of the pieces created with an absolute attention to every detail.
After a complete makeover by Gilles & Boissier, the mythic in the Palais de Chaillot has become one of the most stylish new tables in Paris. The design team respected the Art Deco decor of the 1937 building with views of the Eiffel Tower, the Champ de Mars, and the Jardins du Trocadéro, but made it warmer with sand-color cedar walls and ash-and-marble tables.
Designed by the fantastic Philippe Starck, Caffe Stern is more than an italian restaurant, it is an atmospheric glass-roofed arcade in the heart of Paris built in 1830. The elegant front windows of the café, a listed French historical monument, are today occupied by two stuffed animals—a wolf and a lynx—with rhinestone collars.
Septime restaurant in Paris presents modern French cooking with the best ingredients. But that’s not all. Its bohemian look comes from the fact that it is based in a former furniture workshop in eastern Paris. The twin dining rooms have polished anthracite-color cement floors, sleek Danish-modern chairs, and tables made from rough gray recycled wood. And there’s often a bouquet of flowers in a steel bucket on the bar.
The elegant modern style design of Le Grand Restaurant, which was just awarded two Michelin stars, is Gulla Jónsdóttir’s. The intimate dining room features gray cement walls, Baccarat sconces, thick gray honeycomb-pattern carpeting, and a dramatic skylight that looks like it was inspired by Czech Cubism or salt crystals.
Restaurants in Paris are famous for their great food, and also for their beautiful, inviting spaces. For hospitality projects, these 7 are an amazing inspiration; for a tourism visit, these are must-visit!
