New York designers keep on setting the bar high. This time was Studio Sofield’s turn to take on a spot in the AD100 list. Modernist by temperament and historicist by training, Studio Sofield was founded by Emma O’Neill and William Sofield. The designer believes that design must live as well as it looks. Known for having a holistic approach to design, William has been acknowledge for his exquisite attention to detail and his careful consideration for function in his modern interior design projects.
“I am grounded by all forms of craft as articulated through functionality, personality, and value” William Sofield says.
The main goal of his work is to improve with use and age, creating memory and legacy. The Studio has distinguished itself as an interdisciplinary firm noted for the clarity, quality and wit of its projects. Inspired by films and novels, modern architecture, 20th century art, popular theory and fine craft, the Studio aspires to the spirit of work that is non-conformist, but appropriate, disciplined and full of pleasure.
The Studio portfolio extendes to a wide range of projects, from homes and shops, clubs and hotels, to furniture and fixtures, and also exhibition design. “In every project, beautiful and functional solutions emerge from an artistic concept that is balanced by an unfailing sensitivity to the client’s needs and tastes…”, one can read in their website.
