Best Design Inspiration by Zaha Hadid

Zaha Hadid, the most famous female architect of her time, died last week from a sudden heart attack. Because neither Hadid nor her firm’s incredible projects will be forgotten, we decided to gather some of her best work to inspire you.

Swooping silhouettes and sharp angles as her signature style, this Iraqi-British architect pushed the boundaries of contemporary urban design.

London Aquatics Centre in London, United Kingdom: designed in 2004, it was inspired by the moving water.

CMA-CGM Office Building in Marseille, France: Completed in 2010, the CMA-CGM building was the first tower Zaha Hadid Architects built.

Ordrupgaard Museum in Copenhagen, Denmark: In 2001, the architect won the Danish Ministry of Culture’s competition to design a new extension on museum grounds.

Galaxy Soho in Beijing, China: completed in 2013, it consists of five retail and entertainment complexes linked by bridges.

Chamber Music Hall in Mosley Street, Manchester: designed to showcase performances of Johann Sebastian Bach’s chamber music at the Manchester International Festival in 2009, the project resembles a suspended ribbon.

The Hungerburg Funicular in Innsbruck, Austria: These panoramic gondola stations, built in 2007, mirror the terrain of the Alps in the winter.

Riverside Museum at the Glasgow Museum of Transport in Glasgow, Scotland: according to the firm, the building, which was Hadid’s first major public commission in the United Kingdom, “flows from the city to the river; symbolizing a dynamic relationship where the museum is the voice of both”.

Guangzhou Opera House in Guangdong, China: shaped to resemble two pebbles on the bank of the Pearl River.

Zaragoza Bridge Pavilion in Zaragoze, Spain: Hadid designed the Bridge Pavillion for the Zaragoza Expo 2008, an exhibit dedicated to water conservation and sustainable development.

Pierresvives Building in Montpellier, France: Three government departments in Montpellier, France, are housed in this building, completed in 2012.
