Between interior designer Doroth\u00e9e Meilichzon<\/strong><\/em> and the Experimental Group, there\u2019s already a past! And the Parisian designer<\/strong><\/em> has remained loyal to the Experimental Group for her first hotel project<\/strong><\/em> in London \u2013 where she had already designed three bars. The Henrietta Hotel<\/strong><\/em>, ideally located in the heart of the Covent Garden district, is an 18-room building, full of curves and sweetness \u2013 the trends Doroth\u00e9e loves to explore.<\/p>\n

Opened this spring, the Henrietta Hotel is a gem mixing trends and references in which one feels at home, and it\u2019s also the first London-based hotel from the collective behind Experimental Group, which, in collaboration with Doroth\u00e9e Meilichzon, had two quintessentially British buildings from the 19th century were joined together to create a little London hotel filled with charm.<\/p>\n

It is located just off of Covent Garden Market and close to The Strand. On the hotel\u2019s doorstep, guests on a culinary escapade will have access to some of London\u2019s best restaurants and bars, and for those in search of London\u2019s great cultural offerings, they will just a stroll from theaters, cinemas, museums, and shopping.<\/p>\n

As any other Doroth\u00e9e Meilichzon\u2013created hotel, here guests will find a charmingly tipsy mix of materials and design references, as well as unexpected color choices and some of the most memorable headboards around.\u00a0According to the designer, the newly opened Henrietta Hotel has a friendly environment, and her purpose was clear: \u201cI want people to smile when they wake up in this hotel.\u201d<\/p>\n

Named a \u201cbed and beverage\u201d establishment by its owners, the Henrietta has an 80-seat restaurant and cocktail bar on its first two floors with a new steel-framed round window modeled after the arched glass ceiling in the Covent Garden Market. Meilichzon\u2019s use of terracotta colored cement tiles and seats covered with green velvet, she says, was also inspired by the neighborhood\u2019s brick buildings and vegetable market history. The glazed tiles are handmade in the South of France \u2014 \u201cI wanted to play with the brick color in a new way; the diamond shape is simple and very graphic.\u201d<\/p>\n

The 18 similar bedrooms are done in four different color palettes. No rooms are exactly alike, but all have playful brass lighting designed for the setting. Each bed frame is hand assembled from individual elements, painted, mirrored, or fabric-covered.<\/p>\n

About Doroth\u00e9e Meilichzon<\/strong>
\nAn industrial designer, Doroth\u00e9e trained at Strate College Designers and at the Rhode Island School of Design where she studied toy design. She worked in Paris for five years then decided, aged just 27, to launch her Chzon agency in 2009, establishing a name for herself with restaurant and bar projects such as Mojo in Paris and Experimental Cocktail Clubs in London and New York.<\/p>\n

She always wishes to work as closely as possible with craftsmen, to create unique pieces and to highlight hand-made creation. Decorators, joiners, and marble masons have all the expertise that allows them to create a unique, timeless decor that everyone can make their own.<\/p>\n
