Since the 25th May, a large photographic piece wraps the iconic glass pyramid outside the Mus\u00e9e du Louvre<\/em><\/strong> causing it to disappear against the palace facade. This is due to french artist JR, who made this his latest public artwork. In fact, JR has been invited by the Mus\u00e9e du Louvre to transform one of the most recognizable aspects of the world-renowned museum into a monumental optical illusion.<\/p>\n

Because of this artwork, visitors to Paris<\/strong><\/em> are being greeted with an unfamiliar sight: IM Pei\u2019s iconic glass pyramid, a Parisian landmark that has served as the renowned museum\u2019s entrance since 1989, is still there, but with a very different look. The installation will be unveiled to the public until june 27, 2016.<\/p>\n

The piece is part of an event titled \u201cJR au Louvre,\u201d and is comprised of photographic prints of the museum itself adhered to the glass exterior. When viewed from just the right vantage point it creates an illusion of the pyramid seeming to vanish.<\/p>\n

The iconic pyramid was made into a surprising anamorphic image, as paper sheets cover the entirety of the landmark\u2019s tiled glass fa\u00e7ade. Printed on the paper is a huge-scale black and white image of the Louvre\u2019s historic palace building.<\/p>\n

For more than ten years, artist JR has chosen the public space to showcase his monumental photographic collages and creative urban interventions. Whether it be the Middle East, the favelas of Rio, slums of Kenya, New York, Le Havre or Shanghai, the french creative\u2019s works have appeared on walls in cities around the world.<\/p>\n
