Everyone loves a good hotel bar, so it\u2019s happy news for locals and out-of-towners alike that Dandelyan, the lush cocktail bar at the newly opened Mondrian London at Sea Containers hotel\u2014created by Tom Dixon\u2019s Design Research Studio, the interior and architecture arm of the British designer\u2019s practice\u2014is now serving up rather potent potables, along with a killer view of the Thames and the South Bank skyline.<\/p>\n

A sumptuous, Art Deco\u2013inspired space that references the luxurious cruise liners of generations past, Dandelyan sits on the ground floor of the hotel, tucked away at the rear of the 1978 Warren Platner\u2013designed building. Lavender-hued leather banquettes, golden-chartreuse velour lounge chairs, and an assortment of mirrored tables happily coexist against a nearly clashing backdrop of green walls\u2014it\u2019s the kind of unexpected color combo that Dixon is an expert at pulling off. A decadent, dark green marble bar runs the length of the space, and there are generous gold and brass accents throughout, a reminder of Dixon\u2019s signature penchant for all things metallic.<\/p>\n

As for the drinks, the seasonal cocktail bar will be run by Ryan Chetiyawardana (also known as Mr. Lyan), one of London\u2019s most prolific bartenders and bar owners, who has lent his expertise to countless innovative watering holes both locally and internationally, including White Lyan in London and Henry at the Hudson hotel in New York.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe building, the owners, the operating brand, and the location all shared a common thread, and that is the transatlantic connection. I very early on spotted the link between the original architect of the building, Warren Platner (an American working in London), the owner (a Londoner, educated in the U.S.), and the Mondrian brand (an NYC hotel landing in London),\u201d explains Dixon of his inspiration for Dandelyan, and indeed, the hotel at large. \u201cSo we started thinking about the Anglo-American relationship, about the glamour of transatlantic travel, about the best qualities of Americana and British style and tried to incorporate them into a cohesive whole.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
