Next month, from the 10th to the 22nd, the Big Apple is hosting NYCxDesign.<\/strong><\/em><\/span>\u00a0The annual event that celebrates design, gathers hundreds of thousands of visitors and designers all over the world, showcasing over a dozen design disciplines through exhibitions, installations, trade shows, panels, product launches, open studios, and more.<\/p>\n\n \"BB_Book2020\"<\/a>\n

Just like design itself,\u00a0NYCxDESIGN\u00a0is everywhere, since events will take place across the city\u2019s five boroughs. Here are all the main details worth knowing.<\/p>\n

\n\"NYCxDesign\"<\/a>

Design Pavilion<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

DESIGN PAVILION<\/strong>\u00a0will return to Times Square for\u00a0NYCxDESIGN, <\/strong>that will be filled with\u00a0performance spaces, interactive and information kiosks.\u00a0New outdoor furniture from the Times Square Design Lab will also be making an appearance, as will\u00a0competition for public-space furniture.\u00a0Sound & Vision, a two-week long show from the American Design Club on the confluence of sound, technology, and design will use the area as staging.<\/p>\n

ICFF<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

ICFF<\/strong>\u00a0is the anchor event of NYCxDesign.<\/strong>\u00a0It takes place at the Javits Center from May 19 to the 22. Furniture, Lightning, Outdoor Furniture and Wall Coverings are some of the product categories presented. Over 900 exhibitors from all over the worl showcase what\u2019s best and what\u2019s new for luxury interior design.<\/p>\n

Wanted Design Brooklyn<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Wanted Design Manhattan<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Wanted Design <\/strong>is a platform dedicated to promoting design and fostering the international community. The event will return to Brooklyn\u2019s Industry city with more participants than ever. Graduate students from over 30 international schools are expected to present their work.\u00a0In Manhattan,\u00a0SVA\u2019s Products of Design MFA students will present\u00a0Tools for the Apocalypse, a showcase of products designed for life after a climate change-induced apocalypse. Each contribution is grouped thematically into one of four categories (fire, water, earth, and air) and addresses the evolution of essential materials in a time of dramatic ecological uncertainty.<\/p>\n

This year marks the fourth\u00a0year of the annual design competition, which honours the best of New York City design in products and projects. This open and inclusive awards program recognizes excellence in design\u00a0from the hundreds of events that comprise\u00a0NYCxDESIGN 2019<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Submissions are reviewed by a jury of design industry leaders.\u00a0For the fourth year in a row, the winner in each category\u00a0will receive a\u00a0custom version\u00a0of Lladr\u00f3\u2019s unique sculpture, \u2018The Guest\u2019. \u2018The Guest\u2019 was conceptualized as a symbol of creativity and collaboration, inviting artist-designers worldwide to create their own versions of the character.<\/p>\n

NYC Banner at Chrysler Building<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

On the architecture side,\u00a0Fernando Mastrangelo Studio<\/strong>\u00a0will be showing a full-scale tiny home from cement, glass, sand, and silica. It will contain a living room, bedroom, and outdoor garden. Following a kick-off party at the studio\u2019s space in Brooklyn, the house will be placed on a trailer and moved around the city for a \u201cWhere\u2019s Waldo\u201d experience.<\/p>\n
