In the words of the genious Philippe Starck “When human know-how and technology become a miracle, glass becomes a graceful poetry”. That’s how the french designer describes his latest product, Lady Hio.
Phillipe Starck worked with Paris-based Sergio Schito, to create a table with glass in customisable colours. The tapered table-top sits on delicate-looking legs, which are made out of a lightweight type of glass typically used for laboratory glassware.

Lady hio was designed for Glas Italia and is a collection of tables with a bevelled top in ultra-light transparent crystal and removable legs in borosilicate glass, blown and shaped. These touch the floor with brushed and anodised aluminium details.
The tables’ height is around 73 cm and they were shown first at Salone del Mobile. The hand crafted furniture comes in three transparent colors: yellow, warm grey and orange.
The series consists of a circular and rectangular table, both of which contain specially finished feet in brushed and anodized aluminum.
The transparent nature of the product highlights the conjoining components of the legs making them the feature element within the design.
The use of coloured glass combined with these specific details creates a modern, elegant dinning table.
Glas has been working with a select group of designers for some years now, producing a surprising variety of fascinating objects that exploit the material’s creative potential. This time around Philippe Starck makes a contribution with Lady Hio. And that was guaranteed success!
