After a two-plus year hiatus, the design world\u2019s largest event is finally returning (in person!) at a time when we are more focused on our interior environments than ever. Salone del Mobile,<\/strong><\/a> often known as Milan Design Week<\/em><\/span><\/strong>, is without a doubt the largest and most comprehensive display of exhibitions, debuts, and collaborations in the lifestyle market.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Milan Design Week\u2019s importance<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

This is the world\u2019s largest design festival, featuring hundreds of locations around the city\u2019s design districts and centred by the Salone del Mobile<\/a> furniture fair. So, during Milan Design Week<\/strong>, lots of events and brands showcase and present to the world their new ideas and visions. Milan wears other colours, and this is what is been going on up there. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Alcova 22<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is predicted as being one of the most visited exhibitions of Milan Design Week 2022<\/strong> \u2013 80 realities compared to 50 in the Supersalone 2021 edition \u2013 but with the typical variety in selection. Valentina Ciuffi (founder of Studio Ved\u00e8t) and Joseph Grima created Alcova<\/strong>, a platform for independent design (founder of Space Caviar). It is currently working as an itinerant network of exhibition spaces across numerous sites in and around Milan<\/a>, activating lost historic locations and temporarily recasting them as venues for exhibitions, installations, and performances.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Alcova is described as a lush location, with ever-changing scenery, and the right combination of exhibitors: galleries, companies, cultural institutions, research centres and independent designers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

La Scatola Magica<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Italy and its cinema have unquestionably shaped the very shape of modern film, while also serving as the epicentre of a number of design and architectural revolutions. Salone returns to this convergence of arts, and the definitive act of design that is filmmaking, to pay homage to the city of Milan <\/a>in La Scatola Magic, or The Magic Box. La Scatola Magica, conceived by Davide Rampello, who acted as the installation\u2019s artistic director and creative producer, is a massive incarnation of the camera obscura, reflecting how the fair and the city of Milan are virtuously intertwined as creative organisms \u2013 immersive audio-visual\u00a0installation\u00a0at the Sala Delle Cariatidi at Palazzo Reale. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pulpo L.O.V.E.BANK<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Staged at a former financial institution, Pulpo has converted it into a showroom for its latest designs and goods. The event, titled pulpo L.O.V.E.BANK, leans into the space\u2019s previous identity, and marks the company\u2019s first showing at Milan Design Week<\/strong> 2022, bringing together a scintillating list of items from its catalogue, particularly from collaborations with major names in the design world, such as Sebastian Herkner, Studio BrichetZiegler, Julia Chiaramonti, Natascha Madeiski, and Visser & Meijwaard. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Masterly \u2013 The Dutch<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Masterly \u2013 The Dutch in Milano will once again invite Dutch designers, artists, artisans, and businesses to present their items at the famous Palazzo Francesco Turati in Milan, Italy. Masterly <\/strong>is one of the centrepieces of Fuorisalone <\/strong>within the calendar of events at Milan Design Week. It is the brainchild of independent curator Nicole Uniquole, a celebration of the incredible diversity and inventiveness of creatives working across a variety of disciplines in\u00a0the Netherlands\u2019\u00a0design community, from the fields of\u00a0product,\u00a0lighting,\u00a0textile, and\u00a0furniture design\u00a0to\u00a0graphic design\u00a0and sculpture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Design with Nature<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

This year\u2019s Salone del Mobil<\/a>e featured an exhibit by Mario Cucinella, an Italian architect, designer, and scholar. The Design with Nature<\/strong> project, which is located in S.Project\u2019s Pavilion 15, was created particularly for the 60th edition of Salone del Mobile. Over a 1,400-square-metre area, questions, recommendations, and thoughts on ethics, circularity, domestic space, participatory design, and urban regeneration are elicited.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Twenty by Tom Dixon<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tom Dixon, a British designer, is marking the twentieth anniversary of his studio with the Twenty exhibition during Milan Design Week<\/strong>. Dixon is presenting some of his most recognisable collections, like Mirror Ball and Melt (shown), which have been improved or otherwise altered, at the historic Palazzo Serbelloni.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
