Not wanting to erase the history and memories of the house, Steven and Carole set out to create a practical family home for themselves without compromising on the authenticity of the original building. Retaining feature elements\u00a0was a key starting point, and many details including wall panellings, arches, and mouldings were left intact.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.brabbu.com\/en\/inspiration-and-ideas\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/22.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-3428\" src=\"http:\/\/www.brabbu.com\/en\/inspiration-and-ideas\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/22.jpg\" alt=\"Park Street House by Whiting Architects  Inspirations: Park Street House by Whiting Architects 22\" width=\"640\" height=\"436\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.brabbu.com\/en\/inspiration-and-ideas\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/22.jpg 640w, https:\/\/www.brabbu.com\/en\/inspiration-and-ideas\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/22-300x204.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" title=\"22 22\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>While the house had great height and proportions, there was a need for the three levels of living space\u00a0to be better utilised. A flexible floor plan was devised to keep up with the evolving needs of a growing family, where a \u201ccollection of precincts were created for different uses and users to enable privacy.\u201d Spaces were designed to overlap to keep the family connected but also completely separate when needed. Walls were demolished on the ground floor to create a large kitchen, dining and family space, while upstairs 2 bedrooms and a bathroom provide a self-contained space for children or guests.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.brabbu.com\/en\/inspiration-and-ideas\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/32.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full and Carole\u2019s favourite room. \u201cThe integrity of the period room remains with the beautifully detailed window and panelling as well as the marble fireplace next to the bath.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a
