The typical characteristics of Modern Style are mainly structural elements (concrete and beams) are often left exposed; emphasis on horizontal and vertical lines with fewer curves; lack of fluff; low, horizontal furnishings with clean lines.

Modern Style also is about the celebration of natural light with unadorned windows; natural materials such as unpainted wood, metals, leather and natural fibres; neutral/natural colour palettes; reflective surfaces such as steel, chrome or glass and natural woods and wood veneers.
