Designer, author, TV host and television personality, Nate Berkus is name to follow in the world of interior design projects. Born in California, Berkus runs the Chicago interior design firm Nate Berkus Associates founded in 1995, one year after he graduated from Lake Forest College with degrees in French and Sociology.
Nate Berkus has been a regularly featured guest on The Oprah Winfrey Show, offering design advice to viewers, as well as coordinating surprise make-overs for the viewer’s homes.
Home Rules: Transform the Place You Live into a Place You’ll Love, a step-by-step guide to home design and decoration published by Berkus in November of 2005.
Berkus also collaborated with Target stores to launch his Target Home collection, a line that includes bedding, bath, accessories, lighting, rugs, and window treatments.
In 2013 Berkus was the host and one of the producers of the show “Renovation Nation” in which, “American top designers, builders, architects and landscapers go head-to-head each week, putting their talents to the test on extreme home renovations”.
Nate Berkus has been on a mission to make high design accessible to the masses, his mantra, “Live beautifully,” emphasizes the little things people can do to feel better in their homes.
Berkus believes that people are happiest with their space when they take risks and are honest with themselves about what they really love.
The designer also believes that each home should tell the owner’ story. In the end, it’s the place where you come back to, a place of full of memories and details that reflect your essence.
Some of his tips are simple easy to follow, like taking risks, “add drama with paint” and to invest in handmade and vintage products.
Nate’s work has been featured in publications including Architectural Digest, House Beautiful, VOGUE, InStyle, O Magazine, People and ELLE DECOR.
Berkus became engaged to fellow interior designer, Jeremiah Brent and, according to The New York Times they were the first same-sex couple to be featured in ads for the magazines.
